In his first public statement, Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's new Supreme Leader, addressed regional tensions, the country's foreign policy and domestic unity.
He said all United States military bases in the region should be immediately closed, warning they would otherwise continue to face attacks, The Caspian Post reports, citing Al Jazeera.
According to the statement, Iran seeks good relations with neighbouring countries but will keep targeting US bases located on their territory.
Khamenei also said the Strait of Hormuz should remain closed as a means of putting pressure on Tehran’s enemies.
He added that Iran would continue fighting to avenge the blood of its martyrs, from the slain former supreme leader to children killed in attacks.
He praised members of Iran’s military for preventing the country from being dominated or divided and thanked them for their sacrifices.
Khamenei also said plans are being prepared to provide financial and other support to those affected by the war, while calling on Iranians to show solidarity and overcome their differences.
