An oil tanker caught fire after striking a naval mine in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessel entered an area designated as unsafe by the Navy without obtaining the required authorization, Iran International reports.
The tanker had reportedly switched off its onboard identification and navigation systems before entering the area.
“The Strait of Hormuz is unsafe and closed to vessels attempting to transit without the appropriate coordination,” the Iranian Navy said in a statement.
