In response to escalating electricity shortages, Iran announced that government agencies, public institutions, and educational establishments in 17 of its 31 provinces will be closed on August 6.

This measure aims to reduce energy consumption during a period of intense heat and high demand for cooling devices, The Caspian Post reports per Kazakh media.

In some provinces, departments will continue operations remotely rather than shutting down completely. Furthermore, several provincial administrations have been instructed to suspend work for two consecutive days, August 5 and 6, to further ease the strain on the power grid.

The decision follows record-high electricity consumption in the country, with usage peaking at over 77,000 megawatt-hours on August 3, a significant increase from 69,700 megawatts recorded on August 2.
