Russia will be represented by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev at the farewell ceremony for Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
The announcement was made by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who confirmed the information while speaking to journalists, The Caspian Post reports via TASS.
"Yes, that is correct. Dmitry Anatolyevich will attend the farewell ceremony," Peskov said.
The official mourning ceremonies for Khamenei are scheduled to begin in Tehran on July 3. On the first day, senior delegations from at least 30 countries are expected to attend the commemorative events.
From July 4 to 5, Khamenei's body will lie in state at the Mosalla of Tehran, the Iranian capital's largest religious and public complex, where members of the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects.
A large funeral procession is planned through the streets of Tehran on July 6 before the body is transferred to the holy city of Qom, where additional mourning ceremonies will take place on July 7.
Khamenei's funeral is scheduled for July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad.
