Tajikistan has received its first shipments of crude oil and petroleum products from Iran, marking the start of a new energy supply route between the two countries.

The volume of the initial deliveries and their commercial terms have not yet been disclosed, according to Interfax.

In August, Dushanbe announced an agreement with Tehran to import 2.55 million tons of oil and petroleum products annually.

The planned supplies include 2 million tons of crude oil, 300,000 tons of diesel fuel, 150,000 tons of gasoline and 100,000 tons of aviation fuel.

Transporting the full volume would require around 51,000 railway wagons. Tajikistan has proposed establishing dedicated trains and creating a “green corridor” for fuel transit through Iranian territory.

Russia remains Tajikistan’s main supplier of petroleum products. From January through June 2026, Tajikistan imported 599,500 tons of petroleum products, with more than 90% coming from Russia.
