Tehran and Tokyo Seek to Strengthen Environmental Cooperation

In a joint meeting, Alireza Nojoumi, director of HSE, Passive Defense, and Crisis Management at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), and Masashi Watanabe, director of the Middle East & Africa Division at Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), discussed strategies to enhance cooperation in environmental protection.

According to NIOC, both parties emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, applying the environmental expertise of both countries, and planning for joint training programs aimed at improving environmental and safety standards, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.

The meeting also addressed potential avenues for expanding scientific, technical, and educational collaboration between NIOC and the Japan Oil Engineering Company (JOE). Representatives from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan also attended, stressing the need for continued dialogue and broader cooperation in HSE and passive defense.

Both sides expressed readiness to enhance long-term partnerships focused on environmental management, crisis preparedness, and the adoption of advanced Japanese practices within Iran’s oil and gas industry.
