US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is seriously considering launching a massive military operation against Iran, including strikes that would exceed the scope of those carried out during Operation Epic Fury.

Speaking to Axios, Trump acknowledged that such a decision would have significant consequences but emphasized that he has not yet made a final determination, The Caspian Post reports.

The president did not provide a timeline for making his decision. Two other US officials also confirmed that no decision has been reached and that the military has not received any new operational orders.

The current escalation in tensions has pushed oil prices above $100 per barrel, while the prospect of a return to full-scale conflict remains highly unpopular in the United States.

"I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it," Trump said.

He added that Israel "would join in two minutes if I ask them to," but stressed that "we don't need anybody" to launch another military operation against Iran.

Trump also warned that Israel's participation in any strikes would carry "consequences," suggesting that Iran could retaliate against Israel.

Commenting on diplomacy, Trump said Iranian officials "want to negotiate" but are not yet prepared to reach an agreement.

"They haven't received enough pain yet," he said.

Two regional sources familiar with ongoing mediation efforts told Axios that Iran's leadership has not accepted the latest proposal presented during negotiations.

"We are trying, but the Iranians are not being helpful," one of the sources said.
