The US and Israel are discussing the possibility of imposing a land blockade on Iran as part of efforts to intensify economic pressure on Tehran.

The proposal is reportedly among several options being considered by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two sides discussed increasing pressure on Iran through both “kinetic and non-kinetic means” during their recent meeting at the White House, The Telegraph reports.

One option under discussion would involve restricting Iran’s ability to import and export goods through its land borders. A senior Israeli official said that blocking land access could prevent Iran from bringing goods into the country or sending products out.

Such a strategy would likely require Washington and Jerusalem to put pressure on Iran’s neighboring countries and regional partners to tighten or close border crossings.

However, the plan could carry significant regional risks. Countries cooperating with such restrictions could potentially face retaliation from Tehran.

Retired US Army Lieutenant General Sean MacFarland said that cutting Iran off from trade could isolate its economy and increase pressure on the country. He also argued that an economic strategy could be among the quickest ways to end the conflict, while noting that it could involve military components.

Any land blockade could potentially target key crossings, including Inceburun and Sarakhs, which connect Iran with Turkmenistan.

At the same time, the newspaper cautioned that information about a possible land blockade may have been deliberately leaked, potentially as a way to obscure the true intentions of the United States and Israel.

For now, the reported land blockade remains an option under discussion rather than a formally announced US-Israeli policy.
