Around a third of Kazakhstan’s IT companies are located in the capital city of Almaty.
According to Almaty’s administration, the city has saw 19.2 million US dollars in investment in IT, with startups’ revenues totaling 5.37 billion tenge, which is attributed to implementation of Almaty city’s IT ecosystem development program aimed at promoting startups in key areas, including smart cities, AI, dig data and sustainable development. 2,049 jobs have been created, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
Acceleration and incubation programs have successfully completed 309 startups, of which 16 establish sales in foreign markets, said the press service of Almaty’s authorities.
Besides, Almaty is the first Kazakh city to apply video content analysis and AI to ensure the safety of citizens. In 2023, the city authorities introduced a comprehensive security system in state educational and pre-school facilities.
Under the Unified Video Monitoring System (UVMS), the city seeks to increase the number of surveillance cameras to up to 70,000.
Earlier it was reported that a digital twin of Almaty would be created by the end of 2026.
