Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry has sent an official request to Germany regarding the arrest of a Kazakh citizen on suspicion of espionage in Berlin.

"In connection with media reports about the detention of a citizen of Kazakhstan in the Federal Republic of Germany on suspicion of illegal activity, an official request has been sent to the competent German authorities. A response is currently awaited," the ministry said, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

The ministry also stated that it is closely following the matter.

Earlier, several leading European media outlets, citing the German prosecutor’s office, reported that a Kazakh citizen had been detained in Berlin on suspicion of spying for Russia and attempting to organize acts of sabotage.
