Astana will host the Kazakhstan Open 2025, a prestigious G-1 category international taekwondo tournament, from August 14 to 16 at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace.
The event will feature over 750 athletes from 23 countries, including Olympic champions and world-renowned competitors, competing across cadet, junior, and adult divisions, The Caspian Post informs per Kazakh media.
As part of the official World Taekwondo calendar, the tournament marks Kazakhstan’s return to major G-1 events after an eight-year break.
The competition will introduce updated international rules and advanced KPNP K-2 electronic scoring systems, including new gloves to ensure precise and objective strike recording. Spectators will also enjoy a performance by the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team.
High-profile attendees are expected, including World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue and the Asian Taekwondo Union President. The total prize fund is 15.8 million tenge ($33,000).
Organizers note that the tournament will strengthen Kazakhstan’s reputation as a reliable partner in international sports and pave the way for future events, including the 2026 Grand Prix Final and a planned bid for the 2027 World Championships.
Ahead of the tournament, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Dr. Choue, highlighting the event’s importance in developing taekwondo in Kazakhstan and fostering international cooperation. During the meeting, President Tokayev awarded Choue the Order of Dostyk (Friendship), second degree, while Choue presented Tokayev with a ninth dan black belt, symbolizing mutual respect and partnership.
