Iconic City of Nomads ethnocultural complex in Kazakhstan's Almaty is set for a major transformation, including modern tourist facilities, glamping sites, cafés, and landscaped grounds.
The project aims to turn the historic film set into a modern tourist destination, blending cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and state-of-the-art facilities for visitors from near and far, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
A new pedestrian bridge will connect visitors to the Tanbaly Tas natural landmark, boosting access to one of the region’s most scenic areas.
Once primarily a film set, the 5.8-hectare complex has attracted growing interest from tourists and the creative industry. Regional officials expect the upgrade to turn it into a full-fledged destination, blending cultural heritage, nature, and modern convenience.
With around 500 monthly visitors to the City of Nomads and up to 4,000 tourists annually at Tanbaly Tas, the project aims to expand domestic tourism. Infrastructure work is already underway, including a new 7-km access road, street lighting, and a spacious parking area. Completion is expected by the end of 2025.
The site recently hosted the filming of The Golden Empire, a historical series about Jochi and the formation of the Golden Horde, highlighting its growing role as a cultural hotspot.
