Two people have died after a recreational boat collided with a rock in the Caspian Sea near the coast of Aktau in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region.

Five other people were rescued and taken to hospital with various injuries, TASS reports.

Seven people were aboard the boat when the accident occurred.

Five injured passengers were brought ashore and handed over to medical teams before being hospitalized. During search-and-rescue operations, rescuers recovered the bodies of two men from the water.

The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. (GMT+5) on August 30.

Kazakhstan’s local police department has opened a criminal case over a violation of maritime or river transport safety rules.
