Two oil tankers were targeted in drone attacks near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) Marine Terminal, with one vessel damaged while loading crude oil.

The first incident occurred at 1:48 a.m. (GMT+3) on July 30, when the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Niffos Sifnos, chartered by Tengizchevroil (Chevron), came under attack while loading crude at CPC’s Single Point Mooring (SPM 3), Kazinform reports.

A fire broke out on the tanker’s cargo deck near the oil intake manifolds following the drone strike. The crew extinguished the fire with assistance from three CPC auxiliary vessels.

No casualties were reported, and there was no oil spill. Medical assistance and crew evacuation were not required. The tanker remains afloat while its damage is being assessed.

CPC said oil loading operations have been suspended, although the pipeline facilities themselves continue to operate normally.

A second tanker, the Marathi, sailing under the flag of the Isle of Man, was also attacked while heading toward the terminal to load crude oil. The incident took place in territorial waters approximately six nautical miles from the CPC Marine Terminal.
