The European Union has awarded a 10 million-euro-grant to Kazakhstan’s Aktau Port.
The agreement was signed during the Tashkent Investors Forum on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakhstan Railways.
The funding complements a 35 million-euro-EBRD loan, forming a comprehensive financial package to support the port’s reconstruction and modernization. Studies by European financial institutions highlight Aktau as a key hub on the Trans-Caspian route linking Europe and Central Asia.
The grant will finance the expansion of two berths and the acquisition of weather-resistant cranes, boosting container handling capacity. After upgrades, the port will handle over 0.5 million additional tons of general cargo and serve four full-size vessels simultaneously.
