Governor of Kazakhstan's Mangystau region Nurdaulet Kilybay has said that construction of a new $300 million seaport is planned to be launched in Aktau, regional authorities announced, marking a major development for the country’s role in Eurasian transit routes.
Kilybay said the project’s strategic partner is China’s Zhongyun International Group, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The investor has already registered a company in the region and is finalizing documentation to sign an investment agreement.
The governor noted that the new port will become a key link in a major emerging transport route: China - Kazakhstan - Aktau - Baku - Poti - Europe.
“The project will help form a new international transport corridor. Its implementation will cut cargo delivery times by 7-15 days, reduce transportation costs by 18-25 percent, and create new jobs,” Kilybay stated.
The planned port is expected to significantly expand Aktau’s logistics capacity, strengthening Kazakhstan’s position as a vital transit hub between Asia and Europe.
