A deadly industrial accident has struck the metallurgical site of Kazzinc in Oskemen, Kazakhstan, leaving two people dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred on the morning of May 5 during routine production work. The explosion reportedly happened while workers were cleaning a smoke exhauster, triggering a fire and partial structural collapse, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“Two people were killed and five others were injured. All necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured,” the company said.
Emergency services remain at the scene as rescue and cleanup operations continue. A special commission has been established to investigate the cause and circumstances of the blast.
Kazzinc expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged financial and psychological support to those affected.
An environmental assessment is underway. Preliminary data suggests a localized dust release without exceeding safety limits or releasing hazardous pollutants.
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has taken personal control of the situation following the explosion.
