A fire has broken out at a vehicle service station in Aktau, Kazakhstan, injuring two people and destroying several cars.
The fire was reported in Microdistrict 29A, about four kilometers from the nearest fire station. The blaze erupted at a two-story car repair service station consisting of five garage bays, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Two garage bays were fully engulfed in open flames. Three vehicles inside were damaged by the fire:
a Mercedes-Benz, with its engine compartment and interior burned;
a Mercedes-Benz GL 460, which was completely destroyed;
a Toyota Alphard, also completely burned.
“The fire covered an area of 150 square meters, while the total area of the service station is 600 square meters. Vehicles parked outside-a Mazda 626 and a Toyota Corolla-were also damaged,” the Mangystau Region Department for Emergency Situations said.
Two people sustained thermal burns and were transported by ambulance to the regional hospital. One of the injured, a 33-year-old service station employee and a citizen of Uzbekistan, suffered burns to 90 percent of his body and remains in critical condition.
Firefighters managed to localize the blaze and fully extinguished it. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
