Police in Almaty, Kazakhstan detained a man whose behavior raised suspicions, leading officers to discover a knife and a grenade-like object during a security check.
Police officers stopped the individual after noticing suspicious behavior. During a search of his shoulder bag, police found a knife and an object resembling a hand grenade, prompting authorities to immediately call in an investigative team and explosive ordnance specialists, The Caspian Post reports via Tengrinews.kz.
After examination, experts determined that the item was a training grenade and posed no danger to the public.
The detained man told investigators that he carried the knife for everyday use and claimed he had found the grenade-like object earlier. Those statements are currently being verified.
Police also confirmed that the individual had previously faced criminal prosecution.
The incident triggered a rapid security response but ended without injuries or any threat to public safety.
Following the detention, Almaty police reminded residents not to carry potentially dangerous items and urged anyone who discovers objects resembling weapons or ammunition to immediately report them through the emergency hotline 102.
