Kazakhstan and Italy Form Partnership to Boost Energy Transition

Kazakhstan-British Technical University (KBTU) has announced plans to collaborate with MAIRE, an Italy-based company specializing in industrial plant engineering and natural resource transformation, to strengthen international cooperation in research and education.

The partnership aims to promote innovation and workforce development to support the global energy transition, The Caspian Post reports citing Kazakh media.

The three-year agreement includes guest lectures by MAIRE experts for students, internship opportunities at the company’s facilities, sponsorship awards, and research grants for outstanding students. It also supports job placements and career development for graduates.

As part of the initiative, the university is launching a new educational program focused on the energy transition, along with modular courses for master’s students. The program aims to train specialists in sustainable energy and innovative technologies.

KBTU Rector Maratbek Gabdullin noted that the memorandum opens new opportunities for students and faculty.

“Collaboration with MAIRE will provide our students access to cutting-edge knowledge, innovative technologies, and real-world experience in a leading international company. We are confident this initiative will help train highly qualified specialists in high demand during the global energy transition,” he added.

Niccolò Heilpern, MAIRE’s vice president for Central Asia, the Caspian, and Türkiye, said the company looks forward to working with the university to foster innovation and share expertise to support academic excellence in line with its In-Country Value strategy for Kazakhstan.

“This collaboration will provide valuable opportunities for KBTU students and help develop skills and competencies needed in the regional industry scenario,” he said.

MAIRE believes that Kazakhstan’s energy transition will require significant workforce upskilling, underscoring the need for additional training in energy transition-related fields to strengthen the country’s position in the emerging green economy.
