Kazakhstan Celebrates 30 Years of Its Constitution with Powerful New Exhibition

The Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan has launched a special exhibition titled “Renewed Constitution - Guarantee of a Just Society” to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Constitution.

Organized in partnership with the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan, the exhibition features nearly 150 exhibits-including documents, artifacts, and archival materials from the Presidential Center’s museum, archives, and library-that trace the evolution of constitutional law in Kazakhstan, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The exhibition is divided into three key sections:

“Steppe Laws - Treasury of Wisdom”

“Constitution - Foundation of Independence”

“Renewed Constitution - Basis of Modernization”

Among the highlights are rare editions of the Constitution in Kazakh and Russian printed in Braille, developed jointly by the Constitutional Court and the OSCE Program Office in Astana.

Sergey Udartsev, a member of the constitutional amendments working group, underscored the importance of the 1995 renewed Constitution, which facilitated the democratization of electoral laws, reinforced parliamentary powers, increased government accountability, enhanced legislative regulation for fair resource access, reinstated the Constitutional Court’s authority, and strengthened human rights protections.

In a symbolic gesture this year, mountaineer and cultural figure Kairbek Alibek carried a copy of the Constitution to the summit of Island Peak (6,180 meters) in the Himalayas. A photograph of this historic moment is displayed as a testament to the deep respect held by the Kazakh people for their nation’s foundational document.

The opening ceremony was attended by around 200 guests, including representatives from the Constitutional Court, National Center for Human Rights, Central Election Commission, Institute of Legislation and Legal Information, Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President, Institute of State History, Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office, as well as prominent public figures, scholars, educators, and cultural workers.
