Kazakhstan Extinguishes Fire at Atyrau Oil Refinery

A fire at Kazakhstan’s Atyrau Oil Refinery has been fully extinguished, with no casualties reported.

Around 65 personnel and 19 pieces of equipment were deployed to tackle the blaze. Firefighters localized the fire at 13:42 (GMT+5), before fully extinguishing it, Interfax reports.

The fire broke out at 12:35 in a closed-type sedimentation tank at the refinery’s mechanical treatment facilities.

No work was being carried out at the site when the incident occurred.

Oil sludge inside the tank caught fire, according to the statement.

The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.

The Atyrau Oil Refinery continues to operate normally.
