Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has held talks with visiting Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, in Kazakhstan, focusing on strengthening cooperation in nuclear safety, disarmament, and peaceful atomic energy development.
The discussions covered current global challenges in nuclear security and the expansion of joint initiatives between Kazakhstan and the IAEA, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s strong commitment to its long-standing partnership with the agency, praising Grossi’s leadership in promoting global nuclear safety and advancing the peaceful use of atomic energy.
He noted that Grossi’s previous visit to Kazakhstan in April 2023 gave additional momentum to bilateral cooperation and stressed that both sides share a common position on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
Tokayev also highlighted the signing of a roadmap to deepen cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IAEA through 2036, along with new agreements in nuclear medicine and scientific research.
