Kazakhstan Joins Earth Hour with 500+ Landmarks

Kazakhstan joined millions around the world in observing Earth Hour, with more than 500 buildings and landmarks across the country switching off their lights in a symbolic gesture for the planet.

Illumination was turned off for one hour in homes, offices, and public spaces nationwide. The initiative marked Kazakhstan’s 17th participation in the global campaign, organized by the World Wildlife Fund, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology, this year’s theme focused on promoting ecotourism as a sustainable path for national development, highlighting the country’s natural landscapes and environmental priorities.

Prominent sites that took part included major national landmarks such as the Akorda Presidential Palace, the Baiterek Monument, the Palace of Independence, and the Hazrat Sultan Mosque, along with sports facilities, universities, and industrial headquarters.

Earth Hour remains one of the world’s largest environmental campaigns, engaging more than 2 billion people across roughly 180 countries and 7,000 cities. The annual event encourages individuals and institutions to turn off non-essential lights and appliances for one hour to raise awareness about environmental responsibility and the sustainable use of resources.
