Kazakhstan, Kenya Sign Major Cooperation Deals After Astana Talks

Kazakhstan and Kenya have signed a wide-ranging package of agreements in Astana following high-level talks between Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and William Ruto, marking a major step forward in bilateral relations.

Following the negotiations, the two leaders adopted a joint statement and oversaw the exchange of multiple cooperation documents spanning digital technologies, transport, tourism, mining, trade, finance, and space technologies, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Among the key agreements was a memorandum on cooperation in information and communication technologies and e-government between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development and Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy.

The two countries also signed memorandums covering transport cooperation, tourism development, and collaboration in remote sensing and space technologies between Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary and the Kenya Space Agency.

Financial and investment cooperation featured prominently, with agreements signed between the Astana International Financial Centre and the Nairobi International Financial Centre, as well as between Kazakh Invest and the Kenya Investment Authority.

Additional agreements focused on trade promotion, public administration training, and business cooperation, including partnerships involving the Kazakhstan Foreign Trade Chamber and Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A separate cooperation agreement was also signed between Samruk-Kazyna JSC and Kenya’s National Mining Corporation to strengthen ties in the mining sector.

The signing ceremony came during President William Ruto’s state visit to Astana, which both sides described as a historic milestone in relations between Central Asia and Africa.

Earlier in the day, President Tokayev awarded William Ruto the Dostyq Order and emphasized the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
