Kazakhstan Names Asset Irgaliyev Presidential Advisor

A presidential decree appointing Asset Irgaliyev as Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms has been published by the Akorda press service.

Under the decree signed by the president, Irgaliyev will combine the advisory role with leadership of the key strategic planning body responsible for economic reforms and long-term development policy, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Born on June 18, 1986, he is widely regarded as one of Kazakhstan’s most experienced technocrats in economic governance.

Irgaliyev has held a series of senior government posts over the past decade. Most recently, since February 2025, he has served as Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms. In 2024-2025, he represented Kazakhstan as Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international economic organizations. Earlier, he worked as Assistant to the President for Economic Affairs, Minister of National Economy, and First Vice Minister of National Economy, as well as Deputy Head of the Prime Minister’s Office.

His background also includes leadership roles at the Economic Research Institute, advisory positions within the Prime Minister’s Office, and work at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, where he focused on Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

Irgaliyev holds degrees in economics from the University of Nottingham, University of York, International Business School (Sweden), and KIMEP University.
