Kazakhstan Recovers Fraud Suspect from Russia

A Kazakh citizen suspected of a major fraud case causing losses of over $197,000 has been arrested in Russia and extradited to Kazakhstan.

In 2024-2025 the man posed as an employee of a commercial company in Taraz, promising high returns on investments, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

He offered citizens joint business opportunities in wholesale purchasing and resale of goods, but failed to fulfill obligations, keeping the funds for personal use.

As a result, six Kazakh citizens suffered losses totaling over 100 million tenge ($196,686).

The suspect was detained in August in Russia after being placed on interpol’s wanted list. In Kazakhstan, he faces 5 to 10 years in prison and possible asset confiscation.
