Kazakhstan's Spiritual Administration of Muslims has officially renamed the country's main republican mosque "Nursultan Mosque", making the new designation the mosque's official name.
The announcement was made by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, which said the decision has entered into official use, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
According to the organization, the Nursultan Mosque will continue to serve as a major spiritual center, promoting mutual respect and social unity while preserving traditional religious values and supporting charitable and community initiatives.
Located in Astana, the mosque opened in 2022 and is the largest mosque in both Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
The landmark features a main dome nearly 90 meters high, 130-meter minarets, and can accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers, making it one of the most impressive Islamic religious sites in the region.
