Kazakhstan’s national airline Air Astana has signed a landmark agreement with Boeing to acquire up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The deal - the largest aircraft order in Air Astana’s history - includes five firm orders, five options, and five purchase rights, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“The deal has been approved by the Board of Directors, and the company is currently finalizing the required corporate procedures,” the airline said in an official statement.
The new contract builds on Air Astana’s earlier order for three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, set for delivery in 2026-2027, bringing the total number of aircraft on order to 18.
Deliveries under the latest agreement are scheduled for 2032 to 2035, according to the company.
The combined catalog value of the 18 aircraft, including engines, is estimated at $7 billion, highlighting Air Astana’s commitment to fleet modernization and its strategy to expand long-haul operations with more fuel-efficient, next-generation aircraft.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is known for its extended range, reduced emissions, and improved passenger comfort, positioning Air Astana to strengthen its international competitiveness in the coming decade.
