Kazakhstan is accelerating its automotive ambitions, with plans to localize the production of Li Auto, Omoda, and Jaecoo vehicles by 2028 as part of a broader push to expand the country's passenger and commercial vehicle manufacturing sector.

Industry and Construction Minister Yerssaiyn Nagaspayev announced the initiative during a government meeting, highlighting a series of new industrial projects designed to strengthen Kazakhstan's position as a regional automotive manufacturing hub.

The expansion also includes heavy vehicle production. Beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026, Hyundai Trans Auto will manufacture 500 Volvo semi-truck tractors annually. Meanwhile, Barys Truck Manufactory, in partnership with XCMG, is launching a new project to produce electric truck tractors. The agreements were signed during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's recent state visit to China.

Kazakhstan is also partnering with BYD to roll out a nationwide network of high-speed charging stations, supporting the country's growing electric vehicle market.

The country currently has 11 enterprises producing passenger cars, buses, trucks, and specialized vehicles, with the new projects expected to significantly boost local manufacturing capacity and deepen industrial cooperation with China.
