Kazakhstan’s Majilis (parliament) has moved forward with a draft law on the ratification of an agreement with Austria on the readmission and transit of people residing unlawfully.
Kazakh MP Shenzhanna Imasheva said that the agreement was signed on February 28, 2025, in Astana. The document establishes a legal framework regulating the readmission and transit of individuals who have violated migration legislation in either Kazakhstan or Austria, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Lawmakers noted that ratifying the agreement will strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance the effectiveness of efforts to combat illegal migration. The mechanism is expected to improve coordination between the two countries’ competent authorities while ensuring orderly procedures in line with international standards.
Earlier, the Majilis also ratified a similar Readmission Agreement between Kazakhstan and France, which was signed in Paris on November 2, 2024, reflecting Kazakhstan’s broader approach to strengthening migration governance through international cooperation.
