Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) has sharply increased its grain shipments to Azerbaijan, expanding deliveries 25-fold and transporting 600,000 tons so far.

The announcement came during a visit by KTZ’s leadership to Baku, where they participated in a meeting of railway administration heads from CIS and Baltic countries, The Caspian Post informs via KTZ.

KTZ representatives also joined a session of shareholders of the Joint Transport and Logistics Company - Eurasian Rail Alliance (UTLC ERA), which focused on the company’s strategic development priorities.

According to KTZ, discussions emphasized strengthening the competitiveness of the China-Europe-China transit route, increasing the volume of container shipments, and introducing integrated multimodal solutions within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor.

The parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening partnerships, improving coordination, and jointly implementing projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and appeal of the Eurasian transport network. The measures adopted are expected to further reinforce UTLC ERA’s position as a key operator in Asia-Europe transit logistics.

On the sidelines of the CIS Railway Transport Council meeting, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, held talks with KTZ Chairman Talgat Aldybergenov on increasing cargo volumes along the TITR.

“They also discussed the details of an intergovernmental agreement to upgrade the status of the TITR, the purchase of cargo vessels from Azerbaijan for Caspian Sea operations, and the production of locomotives at a Kazakh plant for the needs of Azerbaijan Railways,” the company noted.

Aldybergenov also met with Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways company, to discuss current issues related to the Middle Corridor’s development and further cooperation in multimodal transportation.
