Kazakhstan will establish a nature reserve dedicated to the conservation of the Caspian seal and its habitats.
Astana hosted today a roundtable meeting for discussing conceptual approaches and priorities of the FAO-Kazakhstan Partnership Programme on Sustainable Water Resources Management and Irrigation, The Caspian Post reports, citing

Special Representative of the President of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation Zulfiya Suleimenova told the roundtable participants about the projects being implemented in the waters of the Caspian Sea.
She mentioned a number of presidential initiatives, one of which is the creation of a nature reserve for Caspian seals, which will let preserve their habitats and rookeries.
According to her, a scientific-research institute for studying the Caspian Sea was established too.
"At the same time, we are currently conducting separate discussions and consultations on other projects, which we will additionally talk about at the stage when they are agreed upon and finalized. The work is underway," she said.
As reported, almost 2,000 dead seals were found along Caspian Sea coast in Mangistau region in October-November 2024.
