German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to make an official visit to Uzbekistan on June 17-18, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between Berlin and Tashkent.
The visit forms part of Steinmeier’s broader Asian tour and is expected to focus heavily on expanding economic cooperation, attracting investment, and strengthening ties in education and workforce development, The Caspian Post reports via UzDaily.
Upon arriving in Tashkent, Steinmeier will be welcomed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov before beginning a packed schedule of official events. The German leader will lay a wreath at Uzbekistan’s Independence Monument and hold talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Kuksaroy presidential residence during a ceremony featuring military honors.
Economic cooperation will take center stage during the presidential meeting, with representatives of the accompanying German business delegation expected to sign a series of agreements involving new projects and investments in Uzbekistan.
In a symbolic gesture highlighting the friendship between the two countries, Steinmeier and Mirziyoyev will plant a tree together in the presidential residence garden. The Uzbek president will later host an official dinner in honor of his German counterpart.
The second day of the visit will include a tour of the Center of Islamic Civilization, one of the world's largest museums dedicated to Islamic culture. Steinmeier will also visit the Uzbek division of German construction company GP Günter Papenburg and participate in discussions focused on skilled labor migration and workforce cooperation.
During the event, the German president is expected to meet students, company representatives, and mentors involved in training and employment programs.
