Uzbekistan’s Gas Prices Among World’s Lowest, Nearly 11 Times Below Global Average

Natural gas remains remarkably affordable in Uzbekistan, with households paying some of the lowest rates in the world and significantly less than consumers in many major economies.

The average household gas price in Uzbekistan stood at just $0.008 per kilowatt-hour as of April 2026. That is nearly 11 times lower than the global average price of $0.086 per kilowatt-hour recorded in September 2025, The Caspian Post reports via EnergyProm.

The figures place Uzbekistan among the world’s most affordable natural gas markets. Only Algeria reported lower household gas prices at $0.003 per kilowatt-hour. By comparison, consumers paid around $0.012 in Russia, $0.016 in Azerbaijan, and $0.025 in Kyrgyzstan.

Gas prices were substantially higher in larger economies, reaching $0.048 per kilowatt-hour in both the United States and India, and $0.051 in China. In some developed countries, costs were many times higher, including $0.233 in Sweden and $0.219 in Brazil.

The low cost of natural gas has helped drive strong domestic consumption. In 2024, Uzbekistan ranked among the world's top 20 countries for per-capita gas consumption, placing 14th globally.

On average, each resident consumed approximately 15,014 kilowatt-hours of natural gas during the year, underscoring the fuel’s central role in the country’s energy mix.

The global ranking was led by Qatar, where annual per-capita gas consumption exceeded 152,000 kilowatt-hours. It was followed by Trinidad and Tobago with 93,300 kilowatt-hours and the United Arab Emirates with 64,700 kilowatt-hours.

Among Uzbekistan’s regional neighbors, higher per-capita gas consumption was recorded in Turkmenistan, Russia, and Belarus. However, Uzbekistan outperformed many European nations, including Germany, Italy, and Luxembourg, highlighting the country’s continued reliance on natural gas as a key source of energy for households and industry alike.
