President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, has arrived in Astana on an official visit at the invitation of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, marking a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

An official welcome ceremony for the Montenegrin leader is taking place at the Palace of Independence, where high-level talks are expected to focus on expanding cooperation across a range of sectors, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

During the visit, Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Jakov Milatović will discuss ways to strengthen political dialogue and boost trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian ties. The talks are expected to explore new opportunities for collaboration as both nations seek to deepen their partnership.

The visit comes at a symbolic moment, as Kazakhstan and Montenegro celebrate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026. Over the past two decades, the two countries have built constructive ties based on friendship, mutual understanding and growing cooperation.

The leaders previously met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2025, when President Tokayev described Montenegro as an important partner for Kazakhstan in the Balkan region.
