Pedestrian Bridge Collapses With People On It in Kazakhstan

A pedestrian bridge collapsed in the eastern Kazakh city of Ust-Kamenogorsk while several people were crossing it, leaving multiple individuals injured.

The incident occurred on a suspension footbridge located on Karbyshev Street. Eight people, including four minors, were on the bridge at the time of the collapse.

Emergency services and ambulances quickly arrived at the scene. Officials said those injured were examined by medical teams and no serious injuries were reported, though several people suffered bruises and abrasions.

Preliminary findings suggest the collapse may have been caused after children began swinging the bridge structure, damaging the wooden deck and destabilizing the crossing.

The minors admitted to shaking the bridge before the incident occurred.

The bridge has since been closed to the public as officials continue inspections and assess the extent of the damage.
