Another Kazakh woman has been reported missing following devastating floods and landslides near the border between Nepal and China, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry said.

Search operations are underway for the two Kazakh citizens, who were reportedly in the disaster zone when sudden flooding and landslides swept through the area, Kazinform reports.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that one Kazakh woman, who was traveling as part of a tourist group, had gone missing. Authorities have confirmed that two Kazakh citizens remain unaccounted for.

The Foreign Ministry said it is working closely with local authorities and remains in contact with the families of the missing women. Kazakh diplomats are also assisting with ongoing search efforts.

The disaster struck on August 26, when sudden floods triggered landslides that tore through valleys and settlements near the Nepal-China border, destroying homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 359 bodies had been recovered from flood-hit areas by August 27 evening, while 910 people remained missing.

The search for the two Kazakh women is continuing as rescue teams work through the widespread destruction caused by one of the region’s deadliest recent natural disasters.
