Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has warmly received President of World Taekwondo Chungwon Choue, highlighting the visit as a key milestone for Kazakhstan’s sports community and a clear sign of World Taekwondo’s strong commitment to advancing the sport’s development in the country.
He described taekwondo as more than just an Olympic discipline - it is a philosophy rooted in harmony, discipline, and mutual respect, connecting millions globally, The Caspian Post reports per Kazakh media.
President Tokayev highlighted the upcoming Kazakhstan Open 2025, an international G-1 ranking tournament in Astana, as a key platform offering valuable opportunities for Kazakh athletes to advance professionally, exchange expertise, and boost the national federation’s competitive edge. He expressed confidence that collaborative efforts would further popularize taekwondo in Kazakhstan and deepen international ties.
In response, Chungwon Choue conveyed his sincere gratitude to the president for the warm reception and continuous support for taekwondo’s growth in Kazakhstan.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the global development of the sport, President Tokayev awarded Chungwon Choue the Dostyq Order, II Degree. As a gesture of respect, Chungwon Choue presented the president with a 9th dan black belt.
