FM: Kyrgyzstan Fully Complies With Global Sanctions

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev has said that Kyrgyzstan does not violate international sanctions and continues to meet all of its obligations to foreign partners.

The minister said that Bishkek maintains close cooperation with the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States on sanctions compliance. He noted that the country's president, Cabinet of Ministers, National Bank, and other government institutions are all involved in ensuring adherence to international restrictions, The Caspian Post reports via 24.kg.

Kulubaev explained that the recent increase in trade with certain countries reflects Kyrgyzstan's economic needs rather than attempts to bypass sanctions. He said higher trade with Estonia is linked to purchases of equipment for domestic use, while increased imports from China are driven by machinery deliveries for major infrastructure projects, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and the Kambarata HPP-1 hydropower project.

The foreign ministry acknowledged that it had not previously done enough to explain its sanctions compliance efforts to international partners and stressed the need for closer diplomatic engagement with host countries.

"All dual-use goods undergo mandatory inspections. If shipments meet the established requirements, they are allowed to proceed. Otherwise, they are returned to the sender or confiscated in accordance with the law. Claims that Kyrgyzstan is violating sanctions are not supported by the facts. We are ready to provide our partners with any necessary explanations and supporting evidence," the ministry said.
