The Kyrgyz Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision has announced that the government officially approved a new Country Program for Cooperation with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), outlining national climate priorities and project needs through 2027.
The decision was adopted during a meeting of the Coordination Council on Climate, Ecology, and Sustainable Development held on July 1, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
The program defines strategic areas for climate action and identifies key initiatives requiring international support.
According to the ministry, from 2010 to 2023, Kyrgyzstan secured significant climate-related financing, primarily in the form of grants and concessional loans. Major contributors included the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), German development agencies, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Investments have been concentrated in three main sectors: energy ($306.6 million), agriculture and forestry ($140.5 million), and water management ($122.8 million). In total, between 2011 and 2021, the country received approximately $620 million in international technical assistance, with over 80 per cent provided as non-repayable grants.
