Kyrgyzstan, UNIDO Seal Landmark Deal for Sustainable Industrial Growth

The Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have formalized a major cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating sustainable industrial development in the country.

The Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) was officially signed at UNIDO headquarters in Vienna, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

The five-year strategic framework is designed to support Kyrgyzstan’s long-term development priorities, aligning closely with the country’s National Development Programme through 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

Led by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the PCP outlines a coordinated approach to delivering UNIDO’s technical assistance and mobilizing multi-stakeholder partnerships. The initiative seeks to promote inclusive industrial growth, economic diversification, and environmental sustainability - both nationally and across the wider region.

Key focus areas under the partnership include fisheries and aquaculture, the agri-food industry, digital development, renewable energy, and smart city infrastructure. Several flagship projects are already in development or being piloted, according to UNIDO.

In remarks made prior to the signing ceremony, Kyrgyz officials urged international partners to actively support the implementation of the PCP and to collaborate in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
