Kyrgyz judoka Erlan Sherov has earned a bronze medal at the European Judo Cup, which took place in Spain.
Sherov competed in the men’s 90 kg weight division, beginning his tournament with a confident win over a Spanish athlete. Despite a strong start, he was defeated in the next round by a competitor from Georgia, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.
Undeterred, Sherov advanced to the repechage bracket, where he showcased resilience and technical skill. He went on to defeat judokas from Portugal, Sweden, Germany, and Morocco, securing a place on the podium and bringing home the bronze.
The medal is a noteworthy accomplishment for both Sherov and Kyrgyzstan, highlighting the nation’s growing presence in international judo competitions. His performance adds to Kyrgyzstan’s string of recent successes in martial arts on the European stage.
