Kyrgyz President Signs Law Renaming Jalal-Abad to Manas

President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, has signed into law the renaming of the city of Jalal-Abad to Manas.

The legislation was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz parliament) on September 10, 2025, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The renaming aims to strengthen national identity by honoring Manas, the legendary hero who defended the Kyrgyz people against various invasions. According to the law, the city formerly known as Jalal-Abad, located in the Jalal-Abad region, will now officially be called Manas.

The law is set to take effect ten days after its official publication.
