Speaker of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic Turgunbek uulu Nurlanbek has met with a South Korean delegation led by Han Jeong-ae to advance political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Korea.
The meeting placed special emphasis on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation, which has seen increased momentum in recent years, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
Turgunbek uulu noted South Korea’s importance as a strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region and highlighted the dynamic growth of relations between the two countries. He pointed to the session of the Asian Inter-Parliamentary Advisory Council on Water Resources, held in Bishkek, as a timely example of collaboration.
“I am confident this event will pave the way for new avenues of cooperation across Asia. We must continue developing this platform and elevate the Kyrgyzstan-Korea ties. Through parliamentary dialogue, we can jointly advance initiatives on water conservation and sustainability,” he stated.
He also highlighted the role of mutual visits and the success of the Central Asia + Korea format in reinforcing regional cooperation.
Trade between the two countries has reached record highs, the parliament speaker noted, adding that Kyrgyzstan is eager to boost collaboration in sectors such as infrastructure, transport, industry, digital technology, mining, and textiles. He urged the Kyrgyz-Korean Intergovernmental Commission to continue its efforts with renewed vigor.
In response, Han Jeong-ae underscored the value of the Kyrgyz-Korean partnership and praised Kyrgyzstan’s efforts in supporting joint initiatives focused on water security and climate change.
“Kyrgyzstan is a key partner for us in the region. Beyond our shared environmental agenda, we are committed to strengthening cooperation in economic development and other priority areas,” Han said.
