Mayor of Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek Aibek Junushaliev chaired a high-level meeting at City Hall to oversee preparations for two major international events set to take place in the capital in 2026: the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and the 6th World Nomad Games.
The session also focused on urban development, beautification, and infrastructure upgrades, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
According to the mayor’s office, city services have already started early planning efforts to ensure Bishkek is fully equipped to host events of such magnitude. “Our main goal is to create a comprehensive infrastructure and ensure a high international level of hosting these events. The preparations are our responsibility, so everyone must work together like clockwork,” Junushaliev stated.
Urban Improvements in Focus
Key improvement measures discussed at the meeting include:
Accelerated replacement of street signs and nameplates in a unified style across the capital.
Enhanced roadworks not only in terms of quality but also in visual aesthetics, as instructed to Bishkekasphaltservice.
The development of standardized regulations for large-scale events, covering public transport, traffic restrictions, crowd management, and the setup of fan zones.
Green Spaces and Digital Monitoring
Director of the municipal enterprise Bishkekzelenstroi, Adilet Abylbekov, outlined plans for the upcoming autumn tree-planting campaign. In support of greening efforts, the mayor instructed the Digital Technology Center to implement a digital green space monitoring system, with real-time updates integrated into an interactive city map.
Commitment to Public Service
Junushaliev concluded the meeting by underscoring the importance of civic duty and accountability. “It is crucial to listen to the opinions of city residents and fulfill all obligations. The most important qualities in a person are honesty and responsibility. All promises must be kept,” he emphasized.
The 2026 SCO Summit and World Nomad Games are expected to draw widespread international attention, positioning Bishkek as a regional hub for diplomacy, culture, and sports.
