Kyrgyzstan Set to Host One of the World’s Toughest Bike Races in August

Kyrgyzstan is gearing up to host one of the world’s leading ecotourism and endurance events - the Silk Road Mountain Race - which will take place from August 15 to 31.

This year, 270 cyclists from 41 countries are expected to compete in the ultra-distance race, covering a demanding 1,954-kilometer route from Osh to Karakol, The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.

Participants will traverse some of the country’s most breathtaking and remote landscapes.

Launched in 2018, the Silk Road Mountain Race has quickly earned a global reputation as a symbol of adventure and extreme cycling tourism in Kyrgyzstan. The 2025 edition will feature a record number of local riders, with 13 Kyrgyz athletes set to take part - the highest figure since the race began.

The race will kick off on August 15 in Osh, with cyclists expected to reach the finish line in Karakol by August 30-31.

The route includes stunning natural landmarks such as Lenin Peak, the pristine Lake Kel-Suu, and the dramatic Tosor, Juuku, and Arabel mountain passes, promising a true test of skill and endurance amid Central Asia’s raw wilderness.
