The First CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that Kyrgyzstan recorded the highest economic growth among Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries in the first five months of 2025.
The country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 12.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2024-more than double the CIS average of 5.3 per cent, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
This placed Kyrgyzstan firmly at the top of the regional economic rankings, with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan following at 8.2 per cent and 6.8 per cent, respectively. Russia, by contrast, recorded a more modest growth rate of 1.4 per cent.
In a related report, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that retail trade turnover across the CIS increased by 4 per cent since the start of the year, signaling broader economic momentum in the region.
Official data from Kyrgyz authorities show that the services sector continues to dominate the national economy, contributing 52 per cent to GDP between January and April 2025. Industry accounted for 20 per cent, construction over 6 per cent, and agriculture more than 4 per cent.
