The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will convene on October 7, in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry announced.

The announcement followed a ceremony during which Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Serdar Mukhammadurdyyev and CIS Deputy Secretary General Denis Trefilov signed a protocol on preparations for the upcoming meetings, The Caspian Post reports.

The ministry said the sides had previously discussed current areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the CIS.

The protocol is intended to coordinate the organisational and substantive preparations for the meetings, which will take place as part of Turkmenistan’s 2026 chairmanship of the CIS.

Turkmenistan holds the chairmanship of the CIS bodies this year.

Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin previously said that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is scheduled for October 9, 2026, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in Turkmenbashi.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the meeting.
