Russia has summoned Moldovan Ambassador Lilian Darii to the Foreign Ministry to protest what it described as serious violations by Moldova of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said Darii was called in on Tuesday, where Russian officials lodged a strong protest over two separate incidents involving employees and official vehicles of the Russian Embassy in Moldova, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

According to the statement, Moldovan police stopped a Russian embassy bus under the pretext of checking documents and removed its diplomatic registration plates without providing any explanation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also alleged that police officers used force during the incident and threatened to detain embassy personnel. It added that the Russian Embassy’s request for a representative of Moldova’s Foreign Ministry to come to the scene and clarify the situation was ignored.

The ministry further said that another incident occurred late Monday at the Leuseni border crossing, where Russian embassy staff were allegedly held without justification for more than four hours after leaving the embassy to arrange the delivery of office property to Russia.
